Onsite Assistants
Not a chat widget that answers questions. An agent that completes the job the visitor came to do.
The chat box most companies run was bought to deflect support tickets. It does not know the catalog, it cannot fill a cart, it cannot take an intake, and on many sites it is the single heaviest thing on the page. We have measured one at 13 MB, loading on every page view whether or not anyone opened it.
What replaces it depends on what the site is for. For a retailer it reads the real catalog and assembles something inside a budget. For a firm it runs the intake conversation and hands over a record that is already structured and already scored.

Everything this layer covers.
01Grounding
- Built on your real catalog or your real intake criteria, never a general model guessing
- It cannot invent a product, a price, a policy or a fact: answers are checked against the source
- Out-of-stock, discontinued and regional differences respected, because they come from your data
- A written scope of what it will not discuss, agreed before launch
02The conversation
- One question at a time, in your order, phrased the way your team would ask
- Long answers interpreted; short, plain ones taken as typed without a model call
- A form fallback for anyone who would rather have one, writing to the same record
- Plain disclosure that it is an assistant, and what happens to what the person says
03Handling sensitive information
- Identifiers removed before any model sees a word, where the subject matter calls for it
- The real record stored by you, not the model vendor
- A human reviews before anything clinical, legal or financial is decided
- Every read of a person’s record logged
04Operations and cost
- The engine is a setting: a frontier model, or an open one at a fraction of the price
- A hard monthly spending cap, past which it degrades to a form rather than failing
- Per-visitor and per-IP limits so one outside agent cannot run up a bill
- Model usage billed through at cost, itemised
Scope is written into the proposal in your words before anything starts. Anything outside it is quoted in writing first. See the engagement model.
